Bringing new blood into the league is always exciting but it’s still uncommon to have an owner immediately jump into the trading fray. Most new owners are circled by the old ones like sharks attracted to blood. However, in a twist to the natural order of things, it seems like TOR Sean was the actual apex predator, as he conducted many many trades, revamping his entire post-dispersal roster a few times over. Let’s take an exclusive look at the behind-the-scenes of this mastermind, and see how we got from a potential Giannis-led contender to a team with all draft assets and young players on the the rise.
Be sure to check out the 2025 dispersal draft results article. And also shout out to TOR's original owner, Ghita.
A veteran of many fantasy hockey leagues, TOR Sean hails from Canada and has been waiting on the sidelines for a call to the big leagues. Sure, he’s got spots in MDA and DSA, but we all know Razzball Dynasty League, this league, is the best one! When the chance came for Sean to join as the TOR owner, he had to jump at it.
Approaching the dispersal, Sean was looking at a win-now type team, as he is usually a win at all costs type manager. Picking third and with Wemby off the table, Sean pivoted to an Antetokounmpo and Domantas Sabonis duo, with aspirations to be a top team right out of the gate after a few trades. However, Sean decided to change strategies mid-dispersal and pivoted again toward more of a rebuild, with an eye toward moving his veteran stars.
As you'll see below, post-dispersal draft, Sean got to work moving Giannis, getting 2025 RD1.3 back in return—which he used to select V. J. Edgecombe. Then, with a flurry of trades in-draft, TOR also moved to get Collin Murray-Boyles and Derik Queen from the first round. With three more first rounders incoming inn a strong 2026 class, TOR looks to be set for success!
The new young core is set to be a fun watch as Sean embarks on a rebuilding team for the first time in his fantasy career. Of course, it seems like TOR Sean has HOU Joe’s itchy trigger finger, so we’d bet this isn’t the last trade and team overhaul we’ll see in The North!
Let’s let Chat GPT take over from here:
"The TOR Raptors entered the dispersal draft and came out looking like instant contenders, grabbing Giannis Antetokounmpo, Domantas Sabonis, and Dejounte Murray to anchor a loaded win-now roster. But in just a few months, they executed close to twenty trades, gutting that core in favor of picks and youth. The Giannis deal was the turning point, sending the two-time MVP out in exchange for a bundle of assets headlined by multiple 2026 firsts — including BOS and IND — plus their own 2026 first. Both BOS and IND project as potential high-end playoff teams, but in a 30-team format, those are still premium trade chips. Sabonis was next, flipped for more draft equity and the rights to high-upside bigs Tyler Smith and Derik Queen, both recent lottery-caliber prospects in the real NBA draft. Murray’s departure brought back Luke Kennard, T.J. McConnell, and yet another pick, signaling a complete abandonment of the “stars and scrubs” approach.Even Shaedon Sharpe, one of the best young scorers in the league, was moved to Orlando for Jarace Walker, defensive anchor Nicolas Claxton, and a 2027 second. TOR also dismantled its wing depth by sending Keldon Johnson and Ochai Agbaji out for picks, including one that would be used to select forward Collin Murray-Boyles. A separate deal saw Precious Achiuwa and Patrick Williams go in exchange for more picks and the frontcourt duo of Drew Eubanks and Sandro Mamukelashvili. From there, the moves came fast: Jalen Wilson, Ben Sheppard, and Ty Jerome were each moved for seconds or fringe prospects, while smaller swaps brought in Brandon Clarke, Chris Boucher, Amir Coffey, and T.J. Warren.
The picks were immediately put to use in the most recent rookie draft, where TOR grabbed a massive class: VJ Edgecombe, Sion James, Kobe Sanders, Collin Murray-Boyles, Tyler Smith, Derik Queen, and Melvin Ajinca — almost all of whom were acquired with traded-for selections. Edgecombe, Smith, and Queen in particular were taken with high first-rounders, representing the top-end payoff from the star sell-offs. In total, TOR flipped every elite dispersal piece into thirteen picks from 2026–2030 (including five firsts in 2026–2027) and a roster almost entirely composed of players aged 20–25, with only Matas Buzelis surviving from pre-dispersal--and he was traded away and then returned via another trade. What began as a superteam turned into one of the deepest rebuild portfolios in the league, with the flexibility to slow-burn a contender or bundle premium firsts for stars when the timing is right."
