Trade Review: All Stars Edition

We've had a hundred and twelve trades this season, but how many of them were mega-blockbusters? We ran the numbers and here are the ten trades that involved current, or near current, All Stars. Which one do you like best?

Trade ID#15:
• OKC received Brandon Ingram, Eric Paschall, RD1, RD2, RD2
• GSW received Bogdan Bogdanovic, Will Barton, $100 FAAB
Back in mid-October, it seemed like moving the oft-injured Ingram for Bogdanovic and Barton would be a nice trade high play. Then Ingram turned into an All Star, and while Bogdanovic and Barton have been good, it’s likely GSW would want this one back. (Brent: "I traded Ingram four bad trades ago. Old news.") In fact, GSW did want part of the trade back, as they moved a month later to bring back Paschall for Isaiah Hartenstein and two RD1s. We'd say that was a high price to pay to lose a twenty-two year old All Star.

Trade ID#17:
• OKC received Zach Collins, RD1
• POR received Brandon Ingram
Of course, OKC didn’t sit on Ingram for long, as he was moved for Collins two weeks after being acquired. (Zeya: "I was at an airport bar...") Collins subsequently got hurt for the season and POR was gifted Ingram to team up with Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. Strangely, this one also had another player reacquired as two months later, OKC and POR teamed up again, with POR dealing Marcus Morris and three RD1s for Collins and Malik Beasley. That one turned out pretty well for POR as well with Beasley now starting in Minnesota. In sum, POR moved Marcus Morris, three RD1s and a RD2 for Ingram and Beasley. Best series of moves ever?

Trade ID#19:
• MIL received Draymond Green
• CLE received Davis Bertans, Markelle Fultz, Ky Bowman, RD1, three RD2
Back in early November, before their super tank set in, MIL moved for the twenty-nine year old Green, jettisoning the 🔥 Bertans and the maligned Fultz to CLE. (Two months after acquiring him, CLE would flip Bertans to LAL for Jeff Teague and two RD1s.) While this wasn’t quite as mega as the rest of the deals on this list, it was an All Star getting moved, and would be a sign of things to come...

Trade ID#21:
• SAS received Stephen Curry, Troy Daniels, Zach Norvell Jr.
• BKN received Jayson Tatum, DJ Augustin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker
After the thirty-one year old Curry was injured mid-November — out for a few months, possibly the year — he was dealt for twenty-two year Tatum and the summer league promise of Alexander-Walker. Was that enough return value for the former MVP who cost the fifth highest auction price? Curry is on the verge of returning soon while Tatum has emerged as a first time All Star. Up to this point, this was the biggest trade in RDA history. Up to this point...

Trade ID#42:
• PHI received Victor Oladipo, Guillermo Hernangomez
• MIL received Bojan Bogdanovic, Thomas Bryant, RD2, RD2
To begin the new year, PHI acquired twenty-seven year old Oladipo to pair with Damian Lillard, creating a one-two backcourt punch that could push them past the playoff bubble and into the postseason. In exchange, bottom dwelling MIL grabbed twenty-two year old big man Bryant, as well as the thirty-year old Bogdanovic. While Oladipo has only recently returned after a long layoff, if he returns to form, he’ll regain his All Star status next season.

Trade ID#63:
• LAL received Andre Drummond, RD2
• ORL received Jonathan Isaac, Derrick Jones Jr., Robert Williams
In late January, with twenty-two year old Isaac officially out for the season, our commish made the huge move of taking on Drummond’s FT% tankitude. That was just one of LAL’s many ensuing moves, and cost them the future Slam Dunk champ — or was he?!? — and two young shot blockers in Isaac and Williams. With two-time All Star Drummond now a Cavalier, it’ll be interesting to see if his counting stats can remain insane.

Trade ID#79:
• HOU received Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony
• IND received John Collins, Elfrid Payton
We thought HOU had made some big moves in acquiring Montrezl Harrell and Kevin Love — on the same day no less — but not even twelve hours later, they went all in on championship dreams by moving out John Collins for thirty-one year old Westbrook. And let’s not forget thirty-five year old Anthony, who has proven his career's not quite over in Portland. Can Mr. Triple Double carry HOU to dark horse contender status? Well...

Trade ID#82:
• HOU received LeBron James, Jeremy Lamb, Dewayne Dedmon
• TOR received Lauri Markkanen, Montrezl Harrell, Monte Morris, RD1
After taking a day off to rest, HOU was back at it again, pushing even more all in for a ring this season by taking on the thirty-five year old King James! That’s a pair of twenty-two year old power forwards in Collins and Markkanen -- and twenty-six year old Harrell -- in exchange for Westbrook and James. Is bringing in two recent MVPs going to vault HOU to the title? At the very least, this has to be the boldest move in RDA history!

Trade ID#90:
• SAC received Kyrie Irving, Anzejs Pasecniks, RD2
• MIA received RD1s in 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024
Irving was moved off rebuilding MIA and onto similarly rebuilding SAC. After wondering all season what it would take to acquire an All Star for pure picks, we found our answer: four future firsts. (SAC has quietly been the third busiest trade owner — tied with LAL — with thirteen moves on the year.) However, with recent news that the twenty-seven year old Irving will be shut down for the year due to shoulder surgery, it looks like SAC will have to wait till next season to see their big three of Irving, Paul George, and Jimmy Butler in action.

Trade ID#94:
• BKN received Kemba Walker, Shaquille Harrison
• TOR received Rui Hachimura, Jordan Clarkson, DJ Augustin, $10 FAAB
A few days before the trade deadline, TOR and BKN teamed up to move another All Star, this time with the twenty-year old Hachimura headlining a trade that resulted in twenty-nine year old Walker moving on to BKN. Walker is currently in stasis due to a balky knee, while Hachimura has returned to the Wizards lineup after a long time off. Time will tell if adding an All Star in exchange for depth will help BKN’s championship chase.

Runner up big names traded: Jamal Murray, John Collins, Jonathan Isaac, Kevin Love, Lauri Markkanen, Montrezl Harrell, Myles Turner, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Wendell Carter Jr.
